My Heart Holds

My heart holds
standing alone
I dare with it
aware of how easily it could crash
a tangle of
wishes and
scattered expectations

My heart holds
The veins nearly
too full
flooded with pains and memories
in starts and beats
and if I only wait but a moment
loneliness will tear it up
and leave it quick
to resort
to the thrum thrum thrum

My heart holds—
How she longs and sings
some song you cannot hear
writing the shapes to transform…

My heart holds
standing alone
much too arrested in shock
to resume beating in time…
