It Never Was

There was a time and a tale
we spent together
now my hands tremble
in the wake of your faded feather
oh so discreetly
you left by my feet
And I, by times, could never quite get this heart together
though once you were there, false hearts never
learn to truly care
There was a chapter and a stanza
empty lines spaced in between
prolonged and painful
placed ever so cunningly
Dear one, what were you after?
because the rain that fell, remains forever
A once and a while flood in my heart
crashing over, absent of warning
…and it’s only me
left for drowning from our tragedy…
