When We Knew

When we knew
the wisest ones could never say
We broke, barely awake to find
our younger selves had gone astray
and now the words
leave their mark, carry on
colouring the rest of the day
Inside of twilight, we divide each heavy raindrop
corner to corner between heartbeats and heart stops
When we knew
the light we were born into
honesty transformed from an unrectified state
to find us in this unknown tranquil place
And now where the sun alights
on all our bound and broken insights
we’ll answer the questions
that for so long
have blanketed our nights…
When we knew
our deepest dreams
could never hold the how…
