Closest

He’s the closest thing to love I’ve ever touched
A brief moment can be the best memory
From the ache inside he wakes me up
Shows me all that I can’t see
And I have to let the words move out of my way
If I can take a spirit like his in
And there’s no room for these pains while I’m listening
To the way he makes light into the sounds of life
And moves the earth to where it feels like heaven
If I could spend every night lost in his secrets
Even if never were they revealed to me
I would need nothing more than to feel that beauty so worthy of me and world

He’s the closest thing to love I’ve ever touched
I need to feel the colors of his energy
I may not ever find enough
But he will be enough to be everything I need
Come on sadness take me up
Because he will always be there waiting
Like a truth that never changes
A soul that reaches far beyond our steadiest beliefs
Although he’s not my one
His soul connects to me
And the gentle patience of his embrace once set me free

And he moved the earth to where it felt like heaven

I am drowning in his song
In a power so compelling
I feel my strength brought to where it belongs

From the ache inside…he wakes me up

How could I cry in the presence of such love?

Lost Light

Red lights turn on
When your heart goes blue
Reflect your lost light back to you
You’re still waiting in between the blackness and the bright you knew
Red lights feel so loud
When your heart stays blue

Just reach out and touch the sky
You’ll breathe better without the lies

I’ll refrain from falling with the rain
Are the words you use to sing your pain
From falling into you
And you won’t know the days I knew
Unless you have experienced the blue

It’s not enough to silence the truth
To bring your lost light back to you
Envision this dream without the blur that fools you into safety
Take up the hope that your heart could arrest the misery
Although you don’t know how to release the shackles from your bravery

If you could only see the darkness as it holds you in its arms
And that nothing now will leave you if you believe you’re safe from harm
You would awake and see with enough strength to see this through
Red lights turn on
When your heart goes blue
Reflect your lost light back to you

…Soft pink skies of quiet for a heart of faded blue…

Weigh You Down

Impossible she says
To handle the strain
There’s never enough time
When you’re waiting for the rain
City signs and hopes alive
And no way to measure pain

It’s going to weigh you down
Only when you let it
Your heart can’t speak out loud
When your soul is screaming
From too much silence in it

Irreversible he knows
The holding down of breath
To keep this life
There’s little hope for the boy he was
Nothing but an invisible shadow
Of the man he would have become
It’s going to weigh you down
Only if you shut out the light
Embrace a dance with the stars
She’ll take your love—
It’s where you are

I forgot what strength was
Even when I stood through the heartache
Watched while my courage fell
Relieved it wouldn’t weigh me down
What I wouldn’t give now
For pride enough to carry this

It’s going to weigh you down
Only when you let it
Your heart can’t speak out loud
When your soul is screaming
From too much silence in it
