The First of May

She’s exquisite, her ebony eyes
Light up the city as she passes them by
A quiet breeze with such gentle ways
She was born on the first of May

She longs to get lost before she finds herself
He wants her to see her beautiful self
She loves him, he’s a rainbow,
That colourful archway that embraces her soul

She can’t run away, she can’t take it in

On the first day of May she needs to begin,
Part from the stirring in her heart, and the swirling of her mind
Still she needs to let sorrow out, and let love in
But May doesn’t realize that she’ll never leave him behind

Even in the smallest delights
May takes all in for release of fright,
She will change, if she answers life
When life wants to give her what she needs

She can’t run away, she can’t take it in

She’s willing, to let the greyness fade,
Outside those broken souls,
She’ll reach above to bring them name,
May lives to show them their light is the way

Still she’s crying, in a myriad of joy and pain,
May wants to be free to believe again
And live for hope, die triumphantly for love
With a wish and a prayer and faith enough…

She can’t run away, she can’t take it in
