Sunset Over Broken Hearts

She’s tired of those questioning eyes,
But she can’t trust that she won’t fall for empty promises,
This isn’t give and take, what he calls compromise,
As the ocean echoes with the tears she forgot to cry.

And if she’s waiting on tomorrow,
He will make sure it never comes,
And his secrets are her sorrow,
Baby, look what we’ve become.

Another sunset over broken hearts,
We are both victims in a deceitful art,
She says we have to give it everything we are,
But he just watches for that last dying star.

He remembers a time when he was so strong,
He was in control until the darkness took over his soul,
These days, he’s unaware of the words he’s speaking,
Until a weary night shows him her silent screams.

He chose that road to take him nowhere,
He takes for granted each beautiful day,
He could never see her as his angel,
Though his heart knew it along.

Another sunset over broken hearts,
We are both victims in a deceitful art,
She says we have to give it everything we are,
But he just watches for that last dying star.

He watches her walk out that door,
She’s the only one he’s ever adored,
She says I’m sorry you had to make love so hard,
The tears fill his eyes—he’s lost his grip on that last dying star…
